NEON
NEON is an Experimental Fashion Film - Video Performance that examines the way well-known costume forms from past eras react and transform regarding the lighting conditions an the materials used. This aspect is underlined by the implied conflict between the real and pretended self. The bulgy, uncomfortable garments and the hostile alternative materials that are made of, represent the outer self; an exoskeleton which encloses the real self, symbolizing the cultural, social, and political backgrounds in which we have grown.

This personal project was a collaborative outcome between me and the artistic community (actors and dancers) of Kavala, Greece. The characters of the film were collaboratively created by the performers themselves, based on their personality, improvisations, group consultations with a psychologist and exposition to stimuli related to the film (original music, costume sketches, materials).

In addition, NEON is an experiment on the relation and interaction between film and performance art. The rehearsals were purely based on improvisation, there was no script or choreography whatsoever. While during the actual shooting it was the first time for the actors to wear the bulky, warm, uncomfortable costumes; I aimed to capture the real, ultimate feel of discomfort and awkwardness of the “pretended” self, being true to the concept of Experimental Film - Video Performance.
